Supporting a New Era of Outdoor Learning in Brandywine, Maryland

Project Description:

The modernization of the William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center in Brandywine, Maryland, is transforming the campus into a dynamic, nature-based learning environment that supports students through immersive education and outdoor experiences.

The reimagined campus includes the new Green Village, featuring student sleeping cabins, a camp center, a new pavilion classroom, outdoor learning spaces, and improved walking and driving paths. A full-service dining hall that can seat up to 275 students and staff is also under construction, with additional instructional space incorporated into its design.

Beyond the new buildings, the modernization includes extensive site improvements, including a state-of-the-art fire protection plan and equipment. As part of this significant campus transformation, Tanks Direct furnished four underground water storage tanks and related accessories to support the site’s fire protection system.

The modernization of the William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center is creating a new, expansive environment for learning, exploration, and student experiences. Supporting that transformation requires infrastructure designed to serve the campus safely and reliably for years to come.

Tanks Direct furnished four 15,000-gallon Highland Tank HighGuard water storage tanks, providing a combined 60,000 gallons of dedicated water storage for fire protection. Strategically distributed across the campus, two tanks serve the Green Village while two additional tanks support the dining hall area.

With underground installation and durable mild carbon steel construction, the tanks provide a practical fire-protection storage solution while preserving valuable campus space for the educational, residential, and outdoor amenities that define the newly modernized facility.

From student cabins and classrooms to trails, gardens, and gathering spaces, the project is creating an environment where students can learn beyond the classroom—and Tanks Direct is proud to contribute the infrastructure that supports it.
